GROUP 3, week 1:

Sep 3, 1510 GMT Kenya - Tunisia  0:0

Before the match:
After Gabon beat Morocco yesterday the group could become more exciting than thought. Now it is Kenya's turn to throw the hat into the ring. On the other hand a good opportunity for Tunisia to race away from the beginning: away points are most valuable in African Football, especially if it is three.

1st half:
-Kenya in green, the numbers are black and difficult to read, Tunisia in white
-('2) First confusion caused in the Kenyan defence by a tunisian free kick cross from the left hand side. On the response Tunisian defence does not look settled either
-('10) free kick Tunisia from 22 meters half left: a difficult bouncing ball but the keeper is able to get grip of it.
-('15) good opportunity for Kenya (#10 or #11) from 16 meters narrowly across the bar - it remains unclear whether it has been ruled offside or not
-('17) complete confusion in the Tunisian defence with the keeper out of the goal but the eventual attempt from 20 meters misses wide right
-Tunisia had dominated the match but the holes in their defending has fired up the home team
-('23) almost huge opportunity for Tunisia after corner
-('27) the Kenyan keeper goes for a cross but only deflects it poorly which triggers several scoring opportunities for Tuniaia in the following. But Kenya escapes somehow with the help of poor Tunisian finishing
-('28)('29) more pressure on the goal by the tactically superior Tunisians
-('30) Kenya with a distance attempt wide again
-('35) Tunisian defender can put his foot just right in time before a good combination sees Kenya through with free way to the goal
-it looks like a goal can happen on either side
-Kenyan keeper much better at crosses towards the end of the half
-('43)('44) two promising attacks by Kenya just not exactly enough executed in the end
-('injury time) huge oppotunity for Kenya when a clearing attempt bounces off a strikers chest (Tunisians want handball) and Kenya is 3 against one on the way to the goal. But a shot right away goes wide again (from 16 meters)
-('injury time) half chances on both sides: one for Tunisia, two for Kenya

halftime 0:0
Tunisian defence does not look solid what more and more encourages Kenya to go for a goal and to go after defenders in Tunisian build up. Tunisia controls sequences of the match. It looks quite open who will score first.

2nd half:
-('47)('48)('49)('51) Two times Tunisia, two times Kenya come close to get opportunities against yet unsorted defences
-('54) Tunisians can step in at the last moment and deflect a Kenyan shot for a corner - it results in a counter attack finished by a poor Zitouni shot wide
-Kenyans with great fighting spirit conquer balls in midfield against the stuttering Tunisian build up which is not helped by the seemingly bumpy pitch
-('65) a rare occasion that a Tunisian counter attack reaches the Kenyan penalty area in the second half yet - but again the Kenyan players with a lot of effort can retain ball possession
-('69) Kenyan pressure again
-(''71) Suddenly the biggest chance of the match for Ali Zitouni who brreakes through on a counter attack - but the keeper, already half way out of the goal, can save his low shot from 15 meters and a defender can clear the loose ball
-('72) Kenya again, but yet Tunisia can prevent the hosts from real clearcut chances like the Zitouni one
-('75) after a long throw in from the left hand side a defended ball comes to an unmarked Kenyan player who shoots from 20 meters but far wide right
-('76) Kenya visit thenTunisian penalyty area gain - it is Khaled Badra who can prevent the striker from a clear attempt on the goal
-although there are waves of attacks that Tunisia cannot stop the core defence is there when situations in front of the goal occur. for example several long throw ins fade without effect
-judging from the number of players that join Tunisian counter attacks and the number of players staying in the back, Tunisia is satisfied with the draw
-('80) Kenyan defender is lucky that a clumsy clearing attempt does not result in a penalty
-('87) Kenyan defence looks odd at a Chihi cross from the right hand side but gets away with a corner
-('89) Kenya score by a header sequence but the referee rules offside - the call seems questionable
-('injury time) another opportunity for Kenya ends with another shot wide
-('injury time) another opportunity for Kenya, this time a header from 12 meters across the bar
-('injury time) a last counter attack by Tunisia, but a harmless shot, no problem for the keeper

final result 0:0
Unfortunately the match came down to a key decision by the referee team. Kenya with a very good match considering their actual status in African football were unlucky here. Apart from this the second half saw a dominating Kenya with the biggest opportunity (apart from the goal) for Tunisia.
