Mali 2002 - The Qualification  GROUP 3

Group 3
A- Kenya, B- Tunisia, C- Gabon, D- Morocco
Though Kenya will make another of their attempts to revive East African football and Gabon might win some home matches, Morocco and especially Tunisia seem too far above them in a group that does not promise much exciting news.

week 2
Oct 6-8, 2000

Tunisia-Gabon  4:2
1:0('3) Jaziri, 1:1('15) Mobomba, 1:2('15) Bitto, 2:2('42) Jaidi, 3:2('58) Gabsi, 4:2 ('75)Thabet

Morocco - Kenya 1:0
1st half:
-('2) Bassir with a big opportunity as Morocco have a quick start - a defender scratches the ball off the line after the keeper had deflected and lowed down the shot
-more opportunities in the following minutes when Morocco is clearly the dominant team
-('17) a surprise counter attack and a diagonal shot from half left side by Kenya, Morocco keeper dives with no chance, but the ball goes wide by a close margin
-('24) a collision between Chippo and a defender, the referee rules penalty. Kenian players want it to have been outside the penalty area, but if it was a foul it was probably inside:
The Kenyan keeper has the right corner and saves Bassirs soft shot.
-in the following Morocco becomes more and more harmless but:
-('43) a free kick from the left hand side on the second goal post and a Chippo header - 1:0
2nd half:
- It is no beautiful game. No team can produce a fluent passing game and exciting goal scenes are rare. Kenya with not enough impact in attack to profit from the loss of orientation in the Morocco game. Both fight, the match is not slow, but neither the match nor the stadium atmosphere is exciting as the crowd does not seem excited themselves.
-it ends 1:0
