Group B

Korea Rep.
Korea have been the pioneers on world level for Asian football. But it was the North who shocked the world by eliminating Italy 1966 at the World Cup at England, before giving away a 3:0 lead at quarter finals against Eusebio's Portugal (3:5). Korea Rep.=South Korea then qualified for 4 consecutive World Cups 1986-1998 withouth making much progress resultwise. They are very ambitious and play a decent football but yet there is always some ingredients missing in the receipe. But four consecutive qualifications on the other side prove that they can be considered a dominant force on the Asian level. Meanwhile the Under 23 team disappointed at the Olympics though it seems a bit unfair to say so: They beat Morocco and Chile 1:0 and lost to Spain 0:3. They then had to go home because there were three teams with 6 points and they had been the one with the worst goal difference.
China
China, such a big (maybe too big?) country and partly soccer enthusiasts, have neither won this title yet nor qualified for a World Cup. Only on youth level they have already impressed. It was expected that this generation of players would make a big step forward but yet it did not happen. China is one of the countries with a professional football legaue but it is talked of critically because of corruption allegations. Now world wide well known Bora Milotinovic will try his luck to lead China to the title or/and the next World Cup, which will be a togh task: because of the direct qualification of Japan and Korea only 2 more places are guarantueed for Asia (plus a half place which means a playoff against an European team).
Kuwait
Kuwait are the strongest Arabian challenger for Saudi Arabia and in good years always capable to come close to winning the title. They won 1980 at home and came among the final four two more times. Their Under 23 team just took part at the Olympics, where they were partly responsible for the knock out of Chech Republic which they beat 3:2. The other two matches against Cameroon and USA were lost.
Indonesia
Indonesia are total outsiders. While there are about ten, twelve Asian teams who play on a quite similar level, the rest looks to be far behind. Indonesia is widely tipped to get punished for having qualified.
