World Cup 2002 - African qualification - match report
Egypt - Morocco   Jan 28 1600 GMT

1st half:
-Egypt in green, Morocco in white
-a lively begin, Morocco does not wait, attacks right away
-('7) Egypt: impressive long range free kick, but Morocco keeper seizes the ball
-('10) Egypt look dangerous on fast counter attacks using the left wing
-Morocco with attacking attitude, that creates space for the fast Egyptians
-('12) Egypt: across from the left and a header against the crossbar
-('15) Morocco break through on the right hand side and the Egyptian keeper has a little problem with the low shot
-('17) Hossam Hassan targets wide from long range
-('22) Morocco keeper has to throw himself into another dangerous Egyptian counter attack
-('26) again it is #18? who after a cross from the left has a huge header opportunity he is unmarked but his header goes wide by a close margin
-('29) most dangerous attacks by Egypt come along the left flank
-('37) Egypt: #14 moves out two defenders but fires across the bar from half left
-('42) the stadium is excited: again a cross from the left - this time it finds Hossam Hassan, his attempt gets deflected and goes over the bar by a narrow margin

halftime 0:0
Morocco play quite well, but Egypt is far more dangerous on fast counter attacks, especially when using the left wing (so the right hand side is a defence problem for Morocco). A lively match with a good tempo.

2nd half:
-Egypt starts again with some half chances
-Morocco now more careful, the match is is far more neutralized without big goal scenes
-('62) suddenly Camacho (Hadda) is broken through after a long ball and the Egyptian keeper can deny the goal only in the last moment, storming out and fdeflecting the ball for a corner
-Egypt has more problems facing a crowded defence now more often
-('75) Hossam Hassan is replaced in a match that has been deadlocked during the second half so far
-('82) Egypt: an indirectly played free kick is a rare second half test for the Morocco keeper
-('83) a defensive blunder (or foul?) sees Egyptian #11 breaking through, passing by the keeper but is already in a very different angle to the goal and he only hits the outside of the net of the empty goal
-('89) Morocco survive a last scare as they lose control over the situation inside their penalty area

final score 0:0
Morocco made the right adjustments at halftime and held Egypt, which looked a very good team for a long time, to a draw. I do not want to build up klischees but scoring seems to be the biggest problem in North African football. All the other aspects of the game look pretty good.
Reuters reports 100,000 attendance but there were empty seats in the stadium.
