Before the match:
Winning today would put
Cameroon within 3 points of qualification after Zambia and Angola delivered
the perfect result yesterday. A premature qualification could give key
players a so important rest in July.
But not everything is perfect
for the Indomitable Lions.
Since the surprise switch
on the coaching post, new coach Akono is suspiciously watched and criticised,
despite winning the Olympic games with the under 23 team before.
When he now called up veteran
keeper Songo'o for a surprise comeback some suspicious and polemic comments
were the conswequence.
Coaching disconuity and
stories like the one above gaining frontpage status are the kinds of distractions
that brought Nigeria and Ghana where they are today. Only for the exceptional
generation of actual players it seems different at the moment for Cameroon.
They have to get up that they keep focussed.
1st half:
-Cameroon with Mboma, Olembe,
Lauren, Song, Foe, Voie (Wome?), Geremi, Njanka, Eto'o, in goal is
Alioum
-Cameroon with some errors
in the defence and Libya look quite determined to be oportunistic about
it
-but when Cameroon attack,
Libya cannot stop them, some chances are the consequence
-Libya occasionally threaten
to run their fast counter attacks
-Lauren seems to have retaliated
after a foul, referee says he has seen nothing, although standing only
a meter away, which makes the Libyan emotions go high
halftime 0:0
2nd half:
-Cameroon dominating that
match completely now
-('56) a first couple of
big opportunities for Cameroon in second half after several scenes that
only came near being a chance
-('63) Tchato replaces Olembe
-Cameroon have difficulties
playing out clearcut chances
-('74) free kick 17 meters
central to the goal, Mboma across the bar
-('76) Foe is stopped in
the penalty area after breaking through by a one-two with Mboma. The referee
says it is foul and rewards a penalty.
-('78) Lauren Etame Mayer
converts the penalty - 1:0
-('79)
the Libyans emotions are hard to calm after the decision and a player is
shown the red card
-('80) Ndiefi comes in for
Foe
-('81) great opportunity
for Libya but Alioum makes a great save against a header
-('86) Alnoudji comes in
for Mboma
-Cameroon who are superior
one against one, still cannot get clearcut chances but one reason is Libya
has not opened up
final score 1:0
Cameroon now needs either
3 more points to qualifiy from any match or one point only from the next
