- No team was without a mathematical chance before the third group match

- the most points for a team to be knocked was 4 (Morocco), no team went home undefeated from the group stage

- the least points for a team to advance was 4 (DR Congo), no team advanced without winning a match (although it had seemed possible)

- two teams were qualified after two matches: Cameroon still played with their top players, securing a third win, Senegal played all their substitutes holding Tunisia to a draw

- both finalists won their opening match, no semi-finalist lost it but two quarter finalists did

- for two teams a draw was enough before the third group match: Nigeria won, Morocco lost

- 33% of the group matches ended scoreless (see k.o. stage for more)
