| Togo must
be wondering themselves how they should regard their 2002 Nations Cup adventure.
Leaving a solid impression, finishing ahead of fellow West Africans Côte
d'Ivoire but not scoring a single goal in a Nations Cup that was characterized
by careful football and many shutouts (matches with opponents held to zero
goals).
No wonder goalkeeper
Kossi Agassa was the most conspicious of the Togolese players and was responsable
for the 0:0 start against Côte d#Ivoire. After a second scoreless
draw against DR Congo everything seemed set up right for the Togolese as
they faced an already qualified Cameroon in the final group match.
But unlike 2000
the Indomitable Lions played at a higher gear and Togo regretted blowing
a huge chances in the beginning of the match. In the second half Cameroon
made it 3:0, a result like a slap into the face for the hopeful Togolese. |
