Etoile du Sahel Sousse (Tunisia) -
JS Kabilye (Algeria) 2:1 (final)
-1:0('15) Abdelkader Keita,
1:1('43) #14, 2:1 ('74) Abdelkader Keita
Etoile du Sahel dominated
the match by attacking footbal against an Algerian team who concentrated
on defending. Nevertheless they bacame dangerous on a few counter occasions,
eveidence is the equaliser late in the first half. One of the most conspicious
players on the field was Ivorian Abdel Kader Keita, not only because of
his spectacular two goals. He was the match winner two years after he scored
against Club Africain in the African Cup Winners Cup final 1999 for his
former club Africa Sports Abidjan. He and his brother Fadel Keita had been
the revelation of the series then. Ibrahima Kone is another player to have
been included in the winning side then.

2nd leg

JS Kabilye*(Algeria) - Etoile du Sahel
Sousse (Tunisia) 1:0 (final)
JSK are CAF Cup winners
1st half:
-the expected scenario:
JSK attacking, ESS quickly going for the counter attacks with long balls
utilising the individual strength of Ivorian Abdel Kader Keita
-both teams with a very
dangerous deflected shot in the first 25 minutes
-controversial goal for
JSK in 28th minute: after a cross from the left following a corner the
ball is stopped by a defender on the line with his chest. The loose ball
is in the air and a striker is a second earlier (is he?) than the keeper,
heading the ball towards the goal again. In the action both bodies clash
(foul? ref says no). The ball is stopped again by that defender and the
big question is whether the ball has crosed the line before. The refs say
yes - 1:0
-ESS is the more dangerous
team in the rest of the first half but JSK take the lead into halftime
and still demonstrate a second goal is possible
-halftime 1:0, a
nice to watch game with attack sought and defences not dominating. This
result has JSK in the overall lead because of the away goal rule
2nd half:
-('48)('49) Tunisians are
unhappy with the referee when, within a minute, he displays the yellow
card to Jaziri for diving and rules foul on a Keita goal because the striker
has bodychecked the keeper. Although the scene reminds a little of the
first half goal the decision seems right.
-68 minutes played, it is
a hectical second half, a JSK freekick brings the most danger
-('71) JSK replace their
keeper who has looked handicapped since the clash with Keita early in second
half
-with all kinds of strategies
JSK achieve to interrupt the match, blocking balls on all set plays without
the referee interfering. When the ball is in play they fight hard and destroy
the Tunisian rhythm
-('84) on another of those
situations Keita completely loses his nerves. He headbutts (or tries to)
Algerian #4 with whom he had a hard and spectacular fight throughout the
match and sees red. He gets completely wild and can hardly get contained
by his teammates
-only 2 minutes added injury
time although there have been several interruptions
final 1:0
JSK have won by a controversial
goal. A key player in the match was the referee. He surely has interpretation
room and within this his decisions can be defended. Only that a superior
number of those interpretations seemed to have gone against the visitors.
Maybe just tough luck. Maybe in a match close like that referee decisions
become more weight than they should.
JSK have put up a great
fight to contain the talented attack of Etoile du Sahel to no goal and
only minor opportunities in the second half |
